At Cambridge House, our countryside guest house, Reeth in Swaledale, our award winning breakfasts are cooked to order using fresh produce from local producers and suppliers.

We take food seriously here at Cambridge House and were proud winners of The Yorkshire Post and Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards 'Best Yorkshire Breakfast 2016'. Your breakfast contributes to supporting Swaledale, Wensleydale, Yorkshire Dales and other North Yorkshire producers and suppliers; so while you enjoy your breakfast you will be helping the local economy either directly from local produce or by buying products from local suppliers. Every item on your breakfast menu has been researched and carefully selected for quality, locality and environmental impact. We also support Fair Trade products and aim to keep our food miles to a minimum wherever possible wherever possible.

You can chose your breakfast from our extensive breakfast menu which offers vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy free options. As a lot of produce is seasonal, we like to change our menu to make the most of what is currently available but here is our list of producers and suppliers:

Your milk is from Yorkshire Dales cows and supplied by Dales Dairies in Grassington. (Our previous supplier retired but we still have the same milkman).

Your eggs are from Wensleydale Eggs, Southwick Farm, Finghall near Leyburn and are free range eggs.

Your bacon, sausage and black pudding are from Hammonds, Bainbridge, Wensleydale or Mainsgill Farm Shop near Richmond.

Your butter is from Wensleydale Creameries or Mainsgill Farm Shop, Richmond.

Your muesli, granola and porridge oats are from Yockenthwaite Farm, Langstrothdale, Upper Wharfedale.

Your yogurt is from Longley Farm, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire and is made using all British milk.

Your breakfast bread is freshly made by Sheila as are the fruit jams, marmalades and lemon curd.

We offer the best kippers from Seahouses in Northumberland and Kilnsey trout from Wharfedale; both are supplied by Ramus Seafood Emporium in Harrogate. Smoked haddock is supplied by Carricks of Snape, Bedale. 

Yorkshire Rarebit is made with Swaledale Cheese, supplied by The Swaledale Cheese Company in Richmond.

You can chose from our tea and coffee menu including breakfast, peppermint, Earl Grey and rhubarb & custard teas; South American blend and Mocha Java blend coffees supplied by York Coffee Emporium in addition to green teas and decaffeinated teas and coffee from Taylors of Harrogate.

To start, please help yourself to orange, apple or cranberry juice, muesli, granola, assorted cereals, natural organic yogurt, berry or dried fruit compote. Gluten free cereals and porridge are available.

Traditional oat Porridge: please help yourself to brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, jam or cinnamon.

Cambridge House breakfast
bacon, sausage, field mushroom, tomato, black pudding, fried bread and fried, poached or scrambled eggs. 

Cambridge House vegetarian breakfast
Vegetarian sausage, mushrooms, tomato, fried bread and fried, poached or scrambled eggs. 

Yorkshire Crumpets
Crumpets dipped in egg then shallow fried until golden brown served with bacon, tomato or mushrooms 

Yorkshire Rarebit  
Toasted Swaledale cheese on mustard bread topped with bacon. For a 'Buck' rarebit, add a poached egg.   

Award winning oak smoked kipper fillet 
Delicious served with a poached egg, brown bread and butter and a lemon wedge.

Kilnsey trout fillet with scrambled eggs

Kilnsey Trout fillet is lightly coated in flour then shallow fried and served with scrambled eggs. 

Smoked haddock fillet and poached egg
The poached egg is optional but makes this breakfast special! 

Scrambled, poached or boiled eggs
One or two eggs served with white or brown toast. 

Berry pancakes
Two American style pancakes made using wholemeal flour, banana and berries served with a dollop of organic yoghurt, mixed seeds and a drizzle of honey.

White or brown home made bread or toast (gluten free available)
Served with a selection of home made jams, marmalade, lemon curd and Yorkshire honey. Peanut butter and Marmite are also available. 

A selection of teas or fresh coffee
Select from Yorkshire tea, York Coffee Emporium Breakfast tea, Earl Grey, peppermint or green tea or a cafetiere of York Coffee Emporium South American Blend of breakfast coffee. Decaffeinated options are also available.

We want all our guests to feel completely comfortable during their stay with us, and this includes ensuring that special dietary requirements are catered for. We offer gluten free, lactose free, vegetarian and vegan options wherever we can.

Whilst we take every precaution, we regret that we cannot guarantee that food prepared in our kitchen is free from nuts. Please inform us if you have a specific food allergy as we can supply a list of the key food allergens which occur in your food.
